A woman's breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness and unfortunately many of these are unavoidable. As age takes hold, breasts will naturally start to sag on their own, other factors that may contribute to less voluminous breasts as well such as breastfeeding, pregnancy, genes and fluctuations in weight.

Procedure:
Breast lift is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery time is varied to the numbers of the concerned areas, approximately from 1 to 4 hours. The incisions used in breast lifts vary depending on the type of lift as well as the severity of laxity. At a minimum, a circular incision will be made in the skin surrounding the nipple. Sometime incision that goes from the bottom of the areola (the colored area around the nipple) downward to the fold underneath the breast. May incision may also be needed underneath the breasts as well. The surgeon will remove and tighten excess skin, contouring and lifting the breasts, without affecting any of the muscles of the chest. Once the desired placement and contour of the chest has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incisions. This is outpatient procedure and the patients return to home after the surgery.
Recovery:
After a few days, the surgical drains removed. Incisions will look red or bright pink and after time, they will fade. Stitches will be removed after a few weeks. Patients can start normal activities about a week to 10 days after surgery. During this time, a support bra should be worn to decrease the swelling of breasts. Swelling should disappear within the first few months and fully subside after 6 months. Surgeon will give specific instructions on how to care.
