Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is the surgical removal of the tonsils. Tonsils are two oval-shaped pads of tissue at the back of the throat.
 Tonsillectomy is usually performed for treat infection and inflammation of the tonsils and also asleep-disordered breathing or doesn't respond to other treatments.
Although it may seem like only children need to have their tonsils taken out, adults may also benefit from having their tonsils removed.


Procedure:
The surgery usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. The surgery is performed under General anesthesia. This is outpatient procedure and the patients return to home after the surgery. An overnight stay is possible if complications arise or if the surgery is done on a young child or a complex medical condition. There are several different ways to remove tonsils; the surgeon will use the technique that is best for the particular patient.


Recovery:
In the first two to three days after surgery, Patient experience some pain in a sore throat also feel pain in jaw, ears, or neck. Pain medication can help feel better during recovery.
Recovery time for a tonsillectomy is usually 10-14 days. It's important to get plenty of fluids after surgery to avoid dehydration. Water and ice are good choices. Soft and cool foods often are easiest for one week and for few days anything hard, crunchy or spicy don't eat (??). Surgeon will give specific instructions on how to care.
