Peyronie’s disease, results in a bend in the penis that can make an erection painful. This disease may develop after trauma to the penis, such as bending or hitting that can cause bleeding and scar tissue buildup. A physical exam helps to identify the presence of scar tissue in the penis and diagnose Peyronie's disease. Patients who fail to respond to drug therapy and have curvature for longer than 12 months for Peyronie's disease are considered candidates for surgery. Surgical solutions include: grafting and penile prosthesis.
Procedure:
This surgery performed under general or local anesthesia. This is outpatient procedure and the patients return to home after the surgery. Surgeon will have different treatment plans depending surgical of Peyronie’s disease.
Recovery:
Patients should be instructed to use ice packs to help with pain and swelling. They need to pain medication. The dressing should exchange daily till five days postoperatively. Patients should be instructed not to engage sexual intercourse for 6-8 weeks after surgery. They may have some pain with erections post-operative that can be reassured that this will improve over time. Surgeon will give specific instructions on how to care.
