Procedure:
The surgery time is approximately from 2 to 4 hours. Breast reduction is performed under General anesthesia. This is outpatient procedure and the patients return to home after the surgery. Breast reduction surgery can be performed either as open surgery with a large incision around areola and under breast or as minimally invasive surgery with small incisions in underarm or around the base of breasts.
Recovery:
For decrease pain and risk of infection, will take pain medication and antibiotics. Breasts will be covered with bandages. A tube might be placed under each arm to drain any excess blood or fluid. Breasts will probably sensitive, swollen and bruised. Surgeon might recommend an elastic compression bra to protect the breasts. Patient will returns to normal activities after 2 to 4 weeks. Scarring usually fades over time. Surgeon will give specific instructions on how to care.
