A lesion of the vulva is contemplated an abnormality or damage in the tissue and excision means tissue on the vulva is removed by cutting. Vaginal lesions or disorders of the vulva could include genital warts, pre-cancers or cancers. Excision of the vulvas lesion may decrease the risk of developing cancer. Procedure:
The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. This is outpatient procedure and the patients return to home after the surgery or rarely need to stay in hospital and this will depend on the type of vulvar surgery. During surgery, surgeon will make one or more incisions in vulvar area. The pre-cancerous or cancerous area is cut out of vulva and the skin is stitched and surgeon determine the best treatment for problem.
Recovery:
Recovers of surgery is different for each person and depend on age and overall health. After the procedure, antibiotics and analgesics are usually prescribed. During 3 weeks patients should avoid heavy lifting, tampons, douching and sexual intercourse and will slowly be able to return to regular diet. Sometime urinary catheter is need. Surgeon will give specific instructions on how to care.
